The design of a starter must incorporate all the points mentioned in the previous sections of this article.
In this section of the article each element of the design of a starter is considered in greater detail.
One principle employed in the design of the units that is starters, relay panels, control panels etc. that have the active devices within that unit have their protective devices within that unit. This is to make isolation of active devices simple and logical. Active devices are contactors, relays, indicators etc.
However as with all principles there are exceptions; with the starter control system it is the local and remote relays located in the control panels and where fitted push button interface relays that are also located in control panels. Since these are part of the starter control circuit their protective device is within the starter.
It must be remembered that in England the design must comply with the IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671); previously entitled the IEE Wiring Regulations; the relevant building regulations, the Electricity at Work Act and any other relevant regulations and standards.
